What is LinkedIn?

Greetings friends! I hope that all is well on this fine October day. I'm here today to talk about one of the hottest social networking websites on the web today - LinkedIn. The website was created especially for people in professional occupations, and has grown tremendously over the past few years.

   According to Wikipedia:

One purpose of the site is to allow registered users to maintain a list of contact details of people with whom they have some level of relationship, called Connections. Users can invite anyone (whether a site user or not) to become a connection. This list of connections can then be used in a number of ways:
  • A contact network is built up consisting of their direct connections, the connections of each of their connections (termed second-degree connections) and also the connections of second-degree connections (termed third-degree connections). This can be used to gain an introduction to someone a person wishes to know through a mutual contact.
  • Users can upload their resume or design their own profile in order to showcase work and community experiences.
  • It can then be used to find jobs, people and business opportunities recommended by someone in one's contact network.
  • Employers can list jobs and search for potential candidates.
  • Job seekers can review the profile of hiring managers and discover which of their existing contacts can introduce them.
  • Users can post their own photos and view photos of others to aid in identification.
  • Users can now follow different companies and can get notification about the new joining and offers available.
  • Users can save (i.e. bookmark) jobs which they would like to apply for.
LinkedIn allows users to research companies with which they may be interested in working. When typing the name of a given company in the search box, statistics about the company are provided.

LinkedIn is considered by many to be an essential tool for professional networking. Companies can use the website to get the word out about their business and gain potential employees/clients. Authors can use the website to display their published works and, not only connect to potential readers/followers, but with agents and book publishers. There really is no limit to what you can accomplish with this website.

One Man Band

I have been talking about my books so much lately, I figure it is time for a little break.

Lately I have been searching YouTube for "One Man Band" videos. You can find some really neat ones that obviously took a lot of effort to make. (Scroll down to the bottom of this blog post to watch some of my favorites.) If you don't know what a "One Man Band" video is, I won't bore you with a description since any questions that you may have will undoubtedly be answered the moment you start watching one of the videos below.
ANYWAY, I'm here to tell you that I made my own "One Man Band" video. I know, it doesn't compare to many of the others that are out there. I made the whole thing in less than six hours using free software that, might I add, kept freezing up every few minutes. (As you can imagine, this made me VERY aggravated!) I do not own professional recording equipment, and the video quality of my camera is nothing to write home about. But, nonetheless, I managed to pull it off. Despite the evil movie editing software, the project was quite fun! Hopefully this will inspire some of you to make your own "One Man Band" video...YOU SHOULD DO IT! And when you do, please share the link to your video in the comment section below. I would love to see what you come up with!

KDP Select (Success story)

I recently enrolled my bestselling e-book "The Earth is a Floating Sphere" into the KDP Select program. KDP Select is a program offered by Amazon Kindle that allows indie authors to market their books by giving them away for free for a certain number of days. (To learn more about KDP Select, CLICK HERE.) At first I was hesitant. Why would I want to give my brand-new book away for free? But then I thought about the idea on a marketing level. By offering my book for free I would not only be expanding my audience, but it would allow me to take advantage of the many "free e-book marketing" websites that are out there. (One really neat site that offers a LOT of promotional opportunities is Galleycat.) So I gave it a try. I agreed to charge $0.00 for my book for five days. I also utilized as many "free e-book marketing" websites that I could find online. I really had no idea what to expect.
The first hour that my book was offered for free I "sold" twenty copies. The next hour, ten more copies. Every single hour for the next five days I sold at least one copy of my book. By the end of the five days I had sold 212 copies of my book. Not bad!
You have to think. That's 212 readers who may have never heard my name before. But they now own a copy of my book, and are telling their friends about it. All because they saw the word "Free" associated with my book.
I don't know if 212 is considered a "high" amount of books to be given away over a five-day period. But it did land my book #7 on the Best Seller's list in Free Poetry. Either way, I would consider the KDP Select program to be a success.

FREE Kindle book...Get it while it's free!

FREE now until Friday (5 Oct 12)! SPREAD THE WORD!!!

Click HERE to get your copy!

Discover the book that quickly made it to the Amazon.com Best Seller's list in FOUR different categories!

This is a collection of some of my most bizarre and unusual writings. In these writings I have tried to capture every feeling imaginable, from the joy felt on Thanksgiving Day to the fear experienced on the battle field. You will enter the mysterious city of Ekerbraun, walk in the shoes of a “Low Fellow” and marvel in amazement at Susan the talking dog. You will also find an array of unusual and random photographs. I will warn you, however: these poems and stories are not meant to fall into any known category, which is why I have labeled them “Care-Free.” You will have to think hard about some of the writings if you are to discover a meaning.

Praises for the poems of "The Earth is a Floating Sphere":

"Your imagery in this work is just wonderful...thanks for sharing." -Joyce Bell, author of "When We All Get To Heaven" (for Mischievous Brown Cat)

"How beautiful and warm." -Le Belle Rouge, author of "The Darkness: Stories And Poetry From Beyond" (for Oh, how I love this time of year!)

"I doubt that many men enjoy having to shoulder that weapon and fire. They fight because they must and they do it bravely. Your poem touched my heart." -Le Belle Rouge, author of "The Darkness: Stories And Poetry From Beyond" (for On The Battlefield)

"Wow! What a write...very well written. Enjoyed this poetic tale! " -Joyce Bowling, author of "Kentucky…The Mountains I Call Home" (for Harvest at Sea)

"Excellent. Great revelation! " -Chanti, Authorsden.com (for To Function Well Within)
